Wilma K. Owens

Wilma K. Owens, age 94, of Litchfield, MN died on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 9 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday June 8, at the Church with a 7:30 PM parish prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Wilma Katherine Owens, the daughter of William and Eva (Connor) Shaw was born on December 29, 1922 on her uncles farm in Todd County, MN near Long Prairie. When she was five her family moved to the Osakis area. She married a neighbor boy, Douglas Owens when she was 17 on April 24, 1940 in the Immaculate Conception Rectory in Osakis. Wilma and Buck were blessed with one daughter, Bev, and made the Osakis area their home and farmed in this area most of their married life. They farmed in Gordon Township until 1980 whey they moved into town. In 1985, Douglas retired and they moved to Litchfield to be close to family. She was a member of the Church of St. Philip where she was active in the CCW quilting group and was a loyal volunteer at the School of St. Philip for 20 years and many funeral lunches. She enjoyed embroidering and crocheting and made countless baby blankets, afghans, doilies, quilts, dishtowels, baptismal robes and lap robes. Wilma is survived by her daughter Beverly (Lyle) Thornquist of Litchfield, MN; grandchildren Doug Thornquist and Christine (Leonard) Maxson; great grandson Benjamin Bode; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Eva; husband Douglas; sister Doris; and brothers Florian, Donald, Dean and Alan.
