William R. Huhner, age 85, of Litchfield died at the Meeker Manor Rehabilitation Center in Litchfield on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 18, 2019 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 Pm until 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 17th at the church with a parish prayer service at 6:45 PM. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Litchfield. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard
William Raphael Huhner Jr., the son of William R and Mildred (Werner) Huhner, was born on March 4, 1934 in Texarkana, AR. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI. Bill graduated from Marquette University High School in 1952 and Marquette University, in 1957, with a degree in Business Administration. He joined the Army ROTC during his college days and served 6 months as 1st Lieutenant, on active duty.
He joined the JCPenny Co. in 1958 as a management trainee. He was assigned his first store, as manager, in Grundy Center, IA in 1963. He had other promotions which took him to Chicago, IL, Bloomington, IL, Litchfield, MN and Roseau, MN. He ended his career in Roseau after 35 years of service with the JCPenny Co. and came back to Litchfield to live permanently with his family in Litchfield. In his retired years he worked at the Litchfield Golf Club and also for Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home.
He married Carol Haselberger in Marshfield, WI on June 6, 1959. They had two sons, William Bryant and David Alan. He was a member of the Litchfield Golf Club, Church of St. Philip, the Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis. Bill was an avid bowler and golfer.
He is survived by his wife Carol Huhner of Litchfield, sons Dave (and Angie) Huhner and William Huhner both of Litchfield; three grandchildren Mayson, MaLaney and Creighton; sister DaNiel (and Don) Aschenbrenner; brothers-in-law Gordon Haselberger and Conrad Werra, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gretchen Werra, sister-in-law Helen Haselberger and niece Debbie Zlab. Memorials to Litchfield Area Hospice or to the Church of St. Philip are preferred in lieu of flowers.
