Wayne A. Rick, age 81, of Litchfield died on November 26, 2011, at the Dassel Lakeside Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the church and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Wayne Arthur Rick was born on March 11, 1930 at his home in Forest City Township, Meeker County, Mn. He was the son of Edwin and Esther (Desens) Rick. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. He received his elementary education in School District 85. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1947. Right out of high school , Wayne began his career working for Pat Campbell's plumbing business. In 1950, during the Korean War, Wayne went into the Navy, where he was a pipe fitter and served aboard a number of air craft carriers. Upon discharge in 1953 he joined the Olson Hardware firm in Litchfield handling the firm's plumbing department. Wayne married June Mattsfield on March 20, 1955. They had 2 sons, James and Gary. It was in 1955 that he and wife June purchased Marvin Nelson's plumbing operation and went into business on their own. In 1963 they built and moved into the present building where they continued to operate their business. Wayne also operated Litchfield Snowmobile Sales out of that location. They spent their years together raising the ""Rick boys"", running the business and spending much time with their families. They enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and especially enjoyed snowmobiling where they made many new friends. In later years they enjoyed traveling with friends made thru the plumbing industry. June passed away in 1983 after a 3 year battle with leukemia. In January 1988 Wayne married Ardith Duncomb. They enjoyed eight years together, making new friends and spending time with their families. She passed away from cancer in 1996. In 2003 Wayne married Betty LaPlante. They enjoyed traveling to Florida, spending time at the cabin at Lake Richardson and at Betty's farm. Wayne especially enjoyed growing his corn and potatoes. Wayne's boys started with the business at an early age, usually sweeping the warehouse or something important like that. After they finished their schooling and training they joined their parents and the four of them, along with several good employees, continued to operate the business. Wayne retired from the business at the age of eighty. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed golfing in the Thursday Men's golf league. Wayne was a member of the Lion's club since 1964 with 44 years of perfect attendance. He was active in his church, the Navy club, the Litchfield Snowmobile club, Litchfield Industries board and had several other interests. Wayne is survived by his wife, Betty Rick of Litchfield, children James (and Julie) Rick of Litchfield, Gary Rick of Litchfield, grandchildren, Nicole (and Cody) Loch, Jennifer (and Aaron) Siegle, Jalayna (and Dan) Smith, Johanna (and Kyle) Bjorkman, Heather (and Jeremy) Sanden, step-children, Joni (and Bill) Kilpatric, Jennifer LaPlante (and husband Steve D'Auria) Dan (and Mary) Duncomb, Gary (and Karen) Duncomb, Bruce (and Vicki) Duncomb, Sara (and Eddie) Smith, step-grandchildren, Jacob Kenning, Shelby Treager, Tom Treager, Keri Treager, Sophia Kidd, Aldo D'Auria, Sara Wagner, Susan Duncomb, Nicole Duncomb, Andrew Duncomb, Tyler Duncomb, Birch Duncomb, Erin Duncomb, Parker Duncomb, Erica Smith, Meagan Smith and Ian Smith, great grandchildren, Josie, Taylor, Jacob, Mila, and Hope, step-great grandchildren, Sadie and David. He is also survived by his sisters, Anna Mae (and Marlow) Wigen of Litchfield, Darlene (and Karl) Lundin of Litchfield, and Shirley Smith of Redwood Falls, sisters-in-law Marion Rick, Brenda Rick, Joan Nelson, Jvonne Larson, bothers-in-law John (and Anne) Mattsfield, Jerry Mattsfield, Joel (and Sandy) Mattsfield, and Robert Wortz. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife June Mattsfield Rick, second wife Ardith Duncomb Rick, brothers Myron Rick and Joel Rick, and brother-in-law James Smith.
