Warren L. Newgaard, age 80, passed away Thursday morning, January 4, 2018, in Queen Creek, AZ. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Cornerstone Church in Litchfield, MN, with Pastor Jeff Garland officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, and a light lunch will be available at the church immediately following the service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling for family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Warren was a Navy veteran, serving during the Cold War. He was employed for many years by Northern States Power Company, where he ran the printing shop. Warren loved to fish and water ski, and was an avid bowler. In 1961, Warren was joined in marriage to his wife, Shirley. They were married for 49 years at the time of her death in 2010. Warren and Shirley raised their children in St. Louis Park, MN, and upon his retirement moved to Litchfield, MN, where he enjoyed many dinners at his favorite spot, Peter’s on Lake Ripley.
Warren is survived by his two children, Cindy (Dan) Franey of Queen Creek, AZ, and Glenn Newgaard of Lakeville, MN; three grandchildren, Rian Franey, Bridgette (Kyle) Stahn, and Brianna (Chaz) Nelson; five great-grandchildren; twin brother Wendell (Barbara) Newgaard; and multiple nieces and nephews. Warren is preceded in death by his wife Shirley and his sister Elaine Erickson.
