Wallace D. Hanson, age 87, of Paynesville, MN, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Banner Hospice in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday May 8, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield with Pastor Gordon Pennertz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Staples, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church and Disabled Veterans of America.
Wallace Dwight Hanson, the son of Daniel and Lillian (Vogtman) Hanson was born on January 28, 1923 in Staples, MN. Wallace received his education at Staples High School graduating in 1941. He served as a US Navy Seaman First Class from 1942 until 1945. He was united in marriage to Lauretta Brummer on August 31, 1946 in Staples, MN. Together they lived in Staples, MN until 1960, then in Litchfield, MN from 1960 until 1984. They retired to Rice Lake near Paynesville, MN for summers, winters in Mesa, AZ and later moved to Paynesville. They owned the Coast to Coast Store in Litchfield, MN from 1960 until 1984. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. Wally enjoyed fishing on Rice Lake, working in his yard, playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Wallace is survived by his wife Lauretta, children; Linda (and Doug) Meyer of Rochester, IL, Kay (and Tim Lane) Hanson of Eden Valley, MN, Dean (and Bev) Hanson of Paynesville, MN, Bob (and Mary Lou) Hanson of Sartell, MN, Barb (and Don) Snegosky of Maple Grove, MN and Chris (and Kevin) Hanson-Ehlinger of Avon, MN, 16 grandchildren; Nichole (and Mike) Spain, Keith Meyer, Jennifer Johnson, Gustaf Johnson, Sami Tierney, Amy (and Kyle) Allen, Kerry Strand, Jessica (and Jason) Olson, Tracy Hanson, Adam (and Megan) Snegosky, Jeff Snegosky, Kate (and Brent) Hannan, Ashley Hannig, Kaz Ehlinger, Bayley Ehlinger, Cayson Ehlinger, 3 great grandchildren; Nolan Snegosky, Courtney Snegosky and Caleb Spain, sisters; Winnifred Schmidt of Staples, MN and Avis Leitch of Swisher, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Dan, brothers; Danny Hanson and Roger Hanson, sister; Eleanor Harry and granddaughter; Rebecca Hanson.
