Virgie N. Miller, age 94, of Litchfield, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2012, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Meeker Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Virgie Miller was born to August M. and Lena Draxton Nelson, June 6th 1918, in Cosmos, Minnesota. She was baptized by Reverend Seastrand, June 23rd 1918, at Beckville Lutheran Church and was confirmed by Reverend John Trelstad, June 14th 1931, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Virgie grew up on her parents farm and was active in 4-H. She went to school at District 4 in Atwater and District 38 south of Grove City. Virgie was united in marriage to Walter H. (Shorty) Madson, son of Peter and Mary Hanson Madson, November 29th 1937, by Reverend Trelstad at her family home. They started their marriage living in and operating the Acton Store in Acton, Minnesota. From there they moved to Dassel, Rosendale, Grove City and settled in Wayzata, where Walter died November 29th, 1967. Virgie worked at a number of jobs starting as a restaurant cook in Grove City, to sales at both the Ben Franklin and Louise Dress Shoppe in Wayzata. She was working as a order entry operator at La Belle's when she retired. Virgie married Jerome D. (Jerry) Miller, December 29, 1971. They lived in the Twin Cities area until Jerry retired and then moved to Litchfield. They became members of the Zion Lutheran Church with Virgie active in the sewing and serving groups. Virgie was also a member of the VFW 2818 Women's Auxiliary, a Senior Citizen Volunteer, a 4-H Leader, a volunteer at Meeker Memorial Hospital, an election judge and a canteen member for the Blood Mobile. After losing Jerry in 2004, she lived until 2012 at the Emmaus Senior Apartment's and then moved to Cokato Manor until her death. She is survived by her children Sally (and Don) Cole, Nan (and Roger) Hawkinson and Peter Madson; daughter-in-law Lois Madson; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Walter Madson and Jerome Miller; her mother Lena and father August Nelson; her son Virgil Madson; her brothers Virgil, Lowell, Arthur, Roy, and Ben Nelson; and her sisters Mrs. Alice Erickson (Adolph), Mrs. Etta Anderson (Marvin), and Mrs. Martha Jensen (Emanuel).Previous Events
