Violet E. Brown, age 78, of Litchfield, MN, died on Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Dassel Lakeside Care Center, Dassel, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 3, 2009, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN, with Pastor Paul Lindhorst officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Monday at church. Interment will be at Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN.
Violet Elsie Brown, the daughter of John and Adina (Abraham) Wittenberg, was born in New Ulm, MN, on January 21, 1931. She was united in marriage to Orville Brown on May 8, 1947, in Gibbon, MN. Together they moved to Buffalo Lake. In 1952, they moved to Granite Falls, MN, until moving to Onamia, MN, in 1962. They lived in Clarkfield, MN, from 1963 to 1970, and St. Cloud, MN, from 1970 to 1977. In 1977, they moved to Litchfield, MN. Violet had a strong sense of service to others, spurred by Christ’s love for her, that was evident in her homemaking, volunteerism and various jobs in the community. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Litchfield VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and will be remembered for her welcoming personality in the church and neighborhood.
Violet is survived by her daughters, Patricia (and Rev. John) Temple of St. Charles, Missouri, and Eileen (and Ron) Manning of Coon Rapids, MN; 8 grandchildren, Nathan Temple, Aaron (and Elizabeth) Temple, Sarah (and Matthew) Smith, Rebekah (and Nickolas) Nissing, Micah Temple, Ryan (and Jennifer) Manning, Brett Manning and Erin Manning; four great grandchildren, Abby and Benjamin Temple, Emma and John Smith; brothers, Walter (and June) Wittenberg of Litchfield, MN, Edwin (and Verda) Wittenberg of Glencoe, MN, Edward Wittenberg of Buffalo, MN, and Rudolph (and Ellie) Wittenberg of Pine River, MN, and sister-in-law, Hazel Wittenberg of Litchfield, MN. She is also survived by a special gentleman friend, Woody Anderberg of Litchfield, MN, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Orville; parents, John and Adina; brothers and sisters, Helen, Elmer, Adelia, Andrew, George, Adeline and Arthur.
