Viola Marion Johnson

Viola M. Johnson, age 91, of Dassel formerly Litchfield, died on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Dassel Lakeside Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Viola Marion Johnson, the daughter of William and Ida (Smith) Robbins, was born on May 28, 1921, in Erwin, SD. She grew up in Erwin, SD and graduated from Erwin High School in 1939. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis to work. She married Raymond M. Johnson on January 15, 1942, in the home of Rev. Reuben Youngdahl who was the pastor of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In 1949 they moved with their family to Litchfield and purchased Waller Drug. They owned Johnson Drug until 1980. She and Ray lived in Mesa, AZ from 1980 to 1992, returning back to Litchfield due to Ray's failing health. Viola enjoyed her many years in Litchfield as a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to play piano, read, knit and cook. She was an avid Twins fan and watched their games on T.V. Viola was active and enjoyed golf, bowling and going out to eat and dancing afterwards. During their years in Litchfield they were members of Zion Lutheran Church. Viola suffered a stroke in September of 2009 and became a resident of Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel. Viola is survived by her daughters, Sandra Grove of Alexandria, Renva (Bruce) Lindquist of Dassel, son, Gregory (Heidi) Johnson of Litchfield, grandchildren, Clinton (Brenda) Lindquist, Heath Lindquist, Daniel (Shannon) Lindquist, Cathryn (Bob) Barker, Dusti (Brian) Berglund and Jesse (Sarah) Johnson, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Ida Robbins, husband Ray, 5 brothers, one sister and a son-in-law.
