Vernon D. Larson, age 86, of Longwood, FL formerly of Hutchinson, died on Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Orlando Veterans Health Care Center in Orlando, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 28th at the Oak Heights Covenant Church in Hutchinson with Pastor Todd Ertsgaard officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 27th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Spring interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Vernon Delmar Larson, the son of Victor and Gertrude (Levander) Larson was born on September 15, 1922 in Grove City. He grew up in the Grove City and received his education there. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he then returned to the Litchfield area and worked for the Meeker County Oil Company for a short time. He then moved to Albert Lea and worked as a Federal Meat Inspector. After fifteen years, he moved to St. Cloud where he worked seven years for the public schools. Vernon then took a job at 3M and moved to Hutchinson retiring in 1982. While they lived in Hutchinson they began wintering in Florida and four years ago moved there permanently. In July of 2008 he and Jean celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Vernon was a lifetime member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was proud of that and was quite involved in serving through that organization. He marched in parades, served meals at Thanksgiving and faithfully attended meetings. He is survived by his wife, Jean Larson of Longwood, FL; children Rick (and Terri) Larson of Hutchinson, Sherry (and Rich) Thompson of Longwood and Loren (and Kelli) Larson of Austin, TX, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers, Allen Larson of Litchfield and Gordon Larson of Hutchinson; sisters, Irene Booth of Garfield, MN and Eileen Paul of Hutchinson. Vernon was preceded in death by one sister Corrine Rettig.
