Vera E. Johnson, age 71, of Litchfield, MN, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN with Pastor Harvey officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN.
Vera Elaine Johnson, the daughter of Donald L. and Martha H. (Meinhold) North, was born on August 29, 1937, in Mankato, MN. They lived in Vernon Center, MN, until the family moved to Grove City when she was 10 years old. She attended Country School #36 through the 7th grade, then went to Grove City High School and graduated in 1955. She started working for Northwestern National Bank right out of high school for the next two and a half years. She was married to Dean Johnson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Atwater on June 16, 1957 to which this union, 5 children were born. They lived on the home farm near Towers Lake until 1964. They lived briefly near Litchfield before moving to Greenleaf in 1965. She began working again for Northwestern Bank in 1965 for the next 22 and a half years. She also worked for Augustana Homes for 11 years, retiring in 2003. Vera was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Eagles Auxiliary and the Home Extension Club. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed home making, gardening, cooking, camping and horseback riding. She was especially known for her lemon meringue pie.
Vera is survived by her husband Dean of Litchfield; mother Martha North; children Keith (and Connie) Johnson of Litchfield, Kevin (and Brenda) Johnson of Pleasant Hill, OR, Nadine (and Rusty) Twardy of Litchfield, Kraig (and Jody) Johnson of Pillager, MN and Sherri (and Mike) Barnes of Coon Rapids, MN; 12 grandchildren Crystal (and Josh) Bailey, Amy Johnson, Katie Johnson, Chassen Johnson, Kayla Barnes, Amber Evenson, Mark Twardy, Cody (and Kara) Johnson, Anthony Barnes, Jason Barnes, Mitchell Johnson and Devin Johnson; 3 great grandchildren Ethan Evenson, Dominic Wendlar and Logan Bailey. She is also survived by her siblings Darlene Holmberg of Grove City, MN, Dwayne (and Brigid) North of Burnsville and Donna (and Jim) Caron of Grove City. She is preceded in death by her father, and a brother in law Wesley.
