Thomas Dale Nagel, 77, of Litchfield passed away at the Lakeview Care Center in Dassel on Sunday September 7, 2014. Tom was born September 15, 1936 in Rochester, Minnesota. He came into this world two months ahead of schedule which presented a challenge to his Mayo doctors and later his mother who was a trained nurse. Tom attended public schools in Chatfield graduating as salutatorian in 1954. He graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul with a political science degree in 1958. Tom worked for one year as a teller for the Root River State Bank before entering law school and then briefly managed the Nagel Garage following the death of his father. Tom Nagel and Wilma Winger of Chatfield were married September 9, 1961. With Wilma's support he completed his law degree at the University of Minnesota and was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 1963. Wilma and Tom moved to Litchfield where he joined the law practice of Olson and Nelson. He served two terms as Meeker County Attorney from 1971 to 1978. Tom had been retired for several years due to failing health. He was an avid fisherman both in the trout streams of southern Minnesota and the lakes of Meeker County. Many early mornings Tom could be heard singing in the boat as loud as he could. Tom was quick-witted, and a great storyteller. He loved to play pranks on his friends and colleagues, often with his partner in crime, Bruce P. Johnson. Together again, the two of them are likely up to some kind of mischief and in trouble already. Tom had a big garden for years and when he didn't have one of his own anymore, he helped his grandchildren with theirs. He sure loved to talk about his grandchildren to anyone and everyone. Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of Litchfield, two daughters; Beth (Scott) Wicklund of Litchfield and Amy Diez of Hugo, four grandchildren; Olivia Wicklund, William Wicklund, Phoebe Diez and Chloe Diez; one sister, Victoria Anderson of Brooklyn Park and one brother, Terry Nagel, of Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Dolores Nagel of Chatfield. An informal visitation with family members will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Johnson Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, followed by dessert at Peter's On Lake Ripley. Please come with your favorite ""Tom"" stories to tell. Burial will be in the Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield, MN at a later date. Previous Events
