Sylvia Erna Altmeyer

Sylvia E. (nee Wolff) Altmeyer, age 92, of Litchfield formerly of Hutchinson, MN, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2011, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. A private family interment service will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. Sylvia Erna Altmeyer, the daughter of Edward and Hilda (Mackenthun) Wolff was born on November 26, 1919 in Morton, Minnesota. She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota. She was a graduate of Miss Wood's School and the Minnesota School of Business. On April 8, 1942, she married Milton F. Altmeyer. Sylvia taught kindergarten in Luverne, Sauk Centre and Hutchinson. Milton died in 1967. She was then married to Dwight Chernausek from 1974 until 1990. She was a member of P.E.O. was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Brownie Leader. She taught English as a Second Language to Koreans, Vietnamese and Hispanics. She was always active in her churches; serving as choir member, director of the children's choir, Sunday School and Vacation Bible Schoolteacher. She enjoyed music and played the piano and organ. She also enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, reading and traveling. Memorials preferred to the Litchfield Public Library. Syliva is survived by her daughter Beth (and Michael) Boyle of Litchfield, MN, son Craig (and Gail) Altmeyer of Rumford, Rhode Island, grandchildren Kelly (and Michael) Hirner, Michael (and Kim) Altmeyer, Kristin (and Eric) Kammermeier and Megan Boyle, great grandchildren Mikayla Altmeyer and Nicolas Hirner, sister Karen Macdonald and brother Howard (and Nancy) Wolff. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton, brother Glen Wolff and sister LuVerne Lewis.
