Stephen J. Spreiter, age 74, of Litchfield, MN, died on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Stephen John Spreiter, the son of Leslie and Florence (Mauer) Spreiter, was born on May 14, 1938, in St. Paul. He grew up in Hector and was a tremendous athlete at Hector High School where he graduated in 1956. He continued his education at Mankato State College. He returned to Hector and worked in the family banking business. On December 27, 1960, he married Jaylene Haspert. They moved to Cosmos in 1961 and bought the bank there. In 1975 he moved to Lake Minnie Belle. On March 19, 1983, he married JoLynn ""Joey"" Atkinson. They moved to Litchfield in the early nineties and he continued his banking business in Cosmos until he retired in 1995. Steve then sold real estate and drove for the Council on Aging. While in Cosmos he was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. Once he moved to Litchfield he became a member of Zion. Steve enjoyed life and almost any activity spent with family and friends. He especially enjoyed the outdoors; mainly fishing, hunting and golfing. He also loved to tell stories and jokes, play cribbage, dancing and music. He is survived by his wife Joey Spreiter of Litchfield, children, John (and Mary) Spreiter of Litchfield, Tim (and Joyce) Spreiter of Litchfield, Lisa (and David) Boss of Edina, Brian (and Janet) Spreiter of Brainerd, grandchildren Matt and Mike Spreiter, Josh and Kalley Spreiter, Nick and James Boss, Jamie, Jody, Alicia and Aaron, five great grandchildren; mother of Steve's children, Jaylene Haspert; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Theodore (and Mary) Spreiter of Tulsa, OK and sister-in-law Marjorie Danielson of Buffalo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother David.
