Stanley Alton Nelson

Stanley Alton Nelson, 92, of Grove City, entered into eternal life on July 24, 2016 at the Meeker Manor Nursing Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City with Reverend Greg Hall and Reverend DelRoy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 28th at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Stanley was born November 17, 1923 in Rosendale, Minnesota to Lloyd and Mabel Nelson. He attended county school District #50 west of Rosendale through the sixth grade and graduated from Grove City high school in 1941 as Valedictorian of his class. He loved sports especially football, basketball, baseball, and track being quarterback for four years while attending the Grove City high school. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years and completed his education at St. Olaf College with a BA in business administration in 1949. He sang in the Viking Chorus at St. Olaf and also the St. Olaf Choir being a soloist, and participated in a concert with them at Carnegie Hall On August 10, 1952 Stanley married Corrine Blikstad at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor, Minnesota. They lived in Grove City where Stanley was part owner of the Nelson Brothers Store in Rosendale, Grove City, and Atwater. He sang in Litchfield Male Chorus, KandiyohiLo Barbershop Chorus, Acton Quartet, Willmar Choral Union, Emmanuel, Arndahl, and Trinity Church Choirs. He also sang at over 400 weddings and funerals. Stanley served as a Board of Director of First State Bank in Atwater. He was treasurer of the Grove City School Board, Grove City Community Homes, Immanuel and Trinity Lutheran Churches. He was a board member of Variety Supply Company in Clara City. Stanley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Litchfield Sons of Norway, he was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of Immanuel Lutheran Sunday School. The videos for Trinity Lutheran church services were taped by Stanley for the local TV. He delivered meals on wheels, played whist, and bowled on a bowling team in Atwater. Stanley is survived by his wife of 64 years of Grove City, daughter Karen (Tim) Johnson, son Karl (Mindy) Nelson; 5 grandchildren Kristen Johnson, Peter Johnson, Dylan Roth, Dallas Roth, and Keana Roth; Brother Lester (Pete) Nelson, sister Eileen McCoy; many nieces and nephews.
