Selmer 'Andy' L. Anderson

Selmer ""Andy"" L. Anderson, age 86, of Litchfield, MN, died at the St. Cloud Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Selmer ""Andy"" Leonard Anderson, son of Franc and Matilda (Peterson) Anderson, was born on July 30, 1927 in Flaxville, Montana. He graduated from Balaton High School in 1945 and served in the US Navy during WWII. On August 24, 1950 Andy married Magdalen ""Macky"" Welle in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Andy and Macky moved to LeCenter, MN, where he began a lifetime career in the grocery business, working as a meat cutter. He later worked in Rapid City before moving to Red Wing, where he purchased the Red Owl Food Store. In 1965 he moved to Litchfield, where he built, owned and operated the Red Owl, until retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Nelson-Horton American Legion Post #104. Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, traveling, taxidermy, gardening, working his woodshop, spending time with his family, going to Arizona for the winter and selling crafts with Macky at craft shows. Andy is survived by is wife Magdalen ""Macky"" of Litchfield; children Barb (Jeff) Kudsk of Berthoud, CO, Jim (Dorothy) Anderson of Winona, MN; grandchildren Jessica (Travis) Moores, Jason (Joanie) Gamoke, Tracy, Kristin, Heather, and Anna; great grandchildren Max, Hunter, Brandon, Easton, Megan, Dayne, Boudica, Jackson and McKinley; sisters Pearl Rupp of Pipestone MN, and Opal Jensen of Greeley, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Gregg Rangeloff; brothers Leon and Vernon, sister Luella. Andy's greatest joy was his family. We will miss him & his wonderful smile.
