Selma Johnson

Selma H. Johnson, age 95, of Litchfield died on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Christa Forsythe officiating. Visitation will be held for an hour and a half prior to the service (9:00 AM) at the church. Interment will be held in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Memorials may be given to Rice Hospice. Selma Helen Johnson, the daughter of William and Freda (Schmekel) Dreher, was born on July 19, 1914 in Long Prairie, MN. She grew up and received her education in Long Prairie, MN graduating in 1932. She was united in marriage to J.R. Johnson on September 20, 1935. She and husband, J.R., who worked with his family in the Johnson Bros. Construction Corp., lived in Grove City and Litchfield, MN, and also spent some summers living at various highway construction locations. After J.R.'s death in 1970, Selma had homes on Green Lake in Spicer, MN and in Sun City, AZ. Selma was a member of First Lutheran Church in Litchfield where she was active in Church Circle and the Church Council. She was also a member of the Litchfield Women's Study Club and the Grove City Band Boosters. Selma is survived by her children Bonnie Johnson of Laguna Beach, CA, Sharon (and Darrel) Schuetze of Spicer, MN, Mary Johnson of Litchfield, MN and Susan (and Tim) Berg of Spicer, MN; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister Alma Leuthner of Alexandria, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband J.R. Johnson; son Daniel; parents William and Freda; 2 sisters and one granddaughter.
