Russell Carlson

Russell F. Carlson, age 81, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church with Pastor David Sorensen officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at First Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Russell Franklin Carlson, the son of Gothfred and Nellie (Paulson) Carlson, was born on December 9, 1927 in Swede Grove Township. He grew up and received his education in Grove City, graduating from Grove City High School in 1944. Russell was united in marriage to Emily Stern on August 19, 1950 in Jeffers, Minnesota. They made their home in Litchfield and he worked as an auto salesman for Minor Motors. In 1956, they moved to Willmar where he continued to sell vehicles, for Amundson-Evans. Russell and Emily returned to Litchfield in 1960. He continued his passion for selling vehicles for the Fenton Family until his retirement in 1991. Russell was an active member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time outside working in the yard and golfing. Russell was dedicated to spending time with his family and those memories will always be treasured. Russell is survived by his wife, Emily of Litchfield; children, Wayne (and Linda) Carlson of Litchfield, Greg (and Dorene) Carlson of Zimmerman, John (and Jo) Carlson of Litchfield and Dan Carlson of Plymouth. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jennifer Carlson, Matt Carlson, Joshua Carlson, Anna (and Jon) Peterson, Amanda Carlson, Andrea (and Jason) Michels, Alex (and Meggann) Carlson, John (and Danielle) Carlson Jr and Jackie Carlson; two great grandchildren, Tyson and Kylie Michels and brother, Jim Carlson of Harrisburg, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials to First Lutheran Church and Litchfield Area Hospice are preferred.
