Rufus A. Paul

Rufus A. Paul, age 91, of Litchfield, MN, died on Monday, May 2, 2016, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will be held in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Rufus A. Paul, the son of Sandy and Lillian (Smith) Paul, was born on June 20, 1924 in Hutchinson, MN. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1942. Following high school Rufus farmed then worked at the Horseshoe Café in Litchfield. He was united in marriage to Eunice Magnuson on January 18, 1949 and entered the military, serving in the US Army. He worked with his father-in-law, doing carpentry work until he started working at Ideal Lumber in Litchfield, where he continued working into his 80's. Rufus was a craftsman, known to be particular, and for his carpentry skills while remodeling and building many homes in the area. Rufus was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he was head usher for many years. He was also a member of the Darwin Rod and Gun Club. Rufus loved to dance and enjoyed listening to old time music. He also enjoyed playing softball in his younger years. He will be remembered as a hard worker, and for his friendly, happy-go-lucky personality. Rufus is survived by his wife Eunice of Litchfield, MN; son Steve (Dianne) Paul of Darwin, MN; three grandchildren Dr. Tamara (Matt) Detert, Terence Paul and Tracie (Louie) Mclain; three great grandchildren Calvin, Wesley and Elise Detert; brother James Paul of Silver Lake, MN; sisters Mary Vanderwaal of Florida, Betty (Bob) Theuringer of Hutchinson, MN and Donna Heairet of Plymouth, MN; sisters-in-law Sharon Welch and Avis Magnuson; and several nieces and nephews.
