Ron Brottem, age 74, of Kingston died on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. Private Family services will be held at a later date. Ronald Gerald Brottem, the son of John and Hazel (Martinson) Brottem, was born on September 5, 1939, in Richmond, Minnesota. He grew up in Litchfield and attended school there. He enlisted in the US Navy in December of 1958, and served for ten years. In March of 1962, he was married to Diane Genke in Litchfield. After serving in the Navy he served in the US Air Force from 1967 until 1978 as a cartographer. He was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, NE and served in Vietnam from 1967 until 1971. After his military service Ron worked for Peoples Natural Gas Company in Omaha. He moved to southern California for a short time before returning to Bellevue. He was married to Linda Carpenter in February of 1981. In 2009, he moved to the Dassel Area. Ron was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, home remodeling and was an avid Vikings fan. He is survived by his children, Michael (and Mary) Brottem of Lawrenceville, GA and Annette (and Dennis) Brottem-Lavallie of Omaha; step-son, Ric (and Lisa) Carpenter of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Ronnie, Brian, Kenny, Jessica, Jackson and Lindsey. He is also survived by his brother, Marc (and Carolyn) Brottem of Chisago City, MN; sisters, Marge (and Dave) Van Nurden of Litchfield, MN and Dalene (and Bob) Walsh of Dassel, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Diane and wife Linda.
