Roman H. Derichs, 74 of Watkins, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with interment in the St. Anthony Cemetery. Fr. John Brunner will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 pm on Sunday and from 8 – 10 am on Monday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Parish rosary will be prayed at 5 pm on Sunday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 6 pm. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Lance Roehlke, Travis Serbus, Tyler Serbus, Matthew Ludemann, Benjamin Ludemann, Aaron Derichs, Nathen Derichs and Jacob Manske. He was the son of John and Mary (Stang) Derichs. He served in the U.S Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 24, 1961, Roman was united in marriage to Rhea ""Cookie"" Stockinger at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids. A celebration of their 50th anniversary was recently held with family. Roman worked as a stone sawyer at the Cold Spring Granite Co. for 42 years, retiring in 2000. After retiring he worked as a custodian at the EDA apartments in Watkins. Roman was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. His hobbies included playing cards, visiting the casino and listening to old time music. Roman enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Buddy. He could often be seen driving them around town in his ""dune buggy"" golf cart.
Roman is survived by his wife, Rhea ""Cookie"" Derichs of Watkins; children and their spouses, Jean and Arnie Roehlke of Big Lake, Lori and Terry Serbus of Watkins, Judy Blakely of Apple Valley, Karen and Ryan Ludemann of Glenwood City, WI, John and Karen Derichs of Richmond, Joyce and Jason Manske of Big Lake; 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brother and sisters and their spouses, Robert and Jan Derichs of Melrose, Rosie and Dennis Rooney of Richmond, Dorothy and Ray Kemper of Barnesville; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Erica Blakely; brothers and sisters, Gilbert, Ralph, Jerome and Harold Derichs, Julia Hoelker, Marion Hoelker, Lorraine Hiltner and Agnes Lenarz.
