Roger Lee Munson

Roger L. Munson, age 76, of rural Watkins passed away on Sunday, Mary 10, 2015 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Forest City. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home with a parish prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the St. Gertrude's Catholic Cemetery. Roger Lee Munson, the son of Leslie and Alice (Nystrom) Munson, was born on September 4, 1938, in Watkins. He grew up on a farm south west of Watkins and attended country school. He graduated from the Litchfield High School in 1956. After high school he attended Telegraphy school in Minneapolis. In 1958, he went to work for the railroad as a telegrapher. He was united in marriage to Patricia Holst in Newtown, ND in January of 1961. They returned to Minnesota and began farming in rural Watkins. While farming he also went to work for Anderson Crane as a welder from 1968 until 1976. Roger began phasing out of farming in 1993 and went to work for Litchfield Garment until he retired in 2001. He was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church. Next month he would have received his 39 year pin for AA. He enjoyed fixing anything mechanical, telling jokes and stories and visiting with friends. He is survived by his wife Patricia Munson of rural Watkins; children, David (and Deb) Munson of Willmar, Sandra Munson of Hutchinson, Julie Munson Eck of St. Cloud, Susannah (and Philip) O'Donoghue of St. Cloud. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; uncle, Earl Munson of Watkins, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother John Munson and grandson Ian O'Donoghue.
