Robert L. Krug, age 80, of Litchfield died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Paul Lindhorst officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery with Military Honors by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Robert Louis Krug, the son of Christian and Juliana (Kleider) Krug, was born on May 19, 1928 in Swede Grove Township, Meeker County. Robert was baptized on June 3, 1928 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Atwater and confirmed on July 14, 1942 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Litchfield. He grew up and received his education in Grove City, graduating in 1946. Robert farmed with his brother Ralph on the home farm and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He was united in marriage to Arline Rudberg on January 27, 1951 at the Presbyterian Church in Litchfield. Robert was a heavy equipment operator with Johnson Brothers. He also worked for Sparboe Chick Company for many years. In addition, he was a hog farmer and then later was a custodian for the Litchfield Public Schools until his retirement. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church and a life time member of the American Legion. Robert enjoyed fishing and traveling. Robert is survived by his wife Arline of Litchfield, son Dean (and Cindy) Krug of Litchfield, daughter Nancy (and Allen) Thorp of Grove City; grandchildren, Ashley Krug, BrieyAnna Krug and Mandy (and Matthew) Kasowicz. He is also survived by his sisters Margaret Wolff of Phoenix, AZ and Marguerite Rooney of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph, sisters Rachel and Charlotte and grandson Brian.
