Richard “Pickle” Gabrielson, age 63, of Darwin, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral and Cremation Service and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Richard Mark Gabrielson was born on May 28, 1955, in Litchfield. The son of Merle and Louise (Oberg) Gabrielson. He was baptized at First Baptist Church of Litchfield and was a member of Cornerstone Church. He attended Darwin and Litchfield schools graduating from Litchfield High School in 1973. Pickle began farming with his parents while still in high school. He then graduated from Willmar Technical College with a degree in Diesel Technology. After college he started working for Slim’s Leasing in Litchfield as a diesel mechanic along with farming part time. He married Debra Ann Johanneck on May 14, 1977 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. In 1983, Pickle and Deb began farming full time and established R & D Gabrielson Farms. Over the years Pickle taught Sunday School and was a member of numerous boards; Farm Credit, Darwin Elevator, Corn Growers, MN Energy Ethanol, Cenex, and Forest City Threshers. He was presently the President of Central Counties Coop Board.
He is survived by his wife Debra of Darwin, two daughters; Melissa (Josh) Webb of Darwin and Megan (Tim) Gibson of Chaska; four grandchildren; Allie Lou, Everly Rose, Easton Gabriel and Wynnie Jo. He also is survived by his sister Nancy Thalberg of Adams, sister-in-law JoAnne Gabrielson of Litchfield, brothers-in-law Mike and Linda Johanneck of Fargo, Dick and Lynn Weiss of Maple Grove, Steve Johanneck and Sherri of Litchfield, Tony and Sylvia Johanneck of Spicer, Joe and Pat Grebenc of Ohio, uncles David Gabrielson of Litchfield and George Gabrielson of Paynesville. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Merle and Lou, brother Gary Gabrielson, mother and father-in-law Bud and Beryl Johanneck and brother-in-law Jim Thalberg.
