Richard G. (Dick) Johanneck, age 85 of Litchfield died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 6, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 11th at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral and Cremation Service and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery.
Richard George Johanneck, the son of Benedict and Elizabeth (Oachs) Johanneck, was born on August 22, 1933, in Harvey Township, MN. He grew up near Litchfield and received his education there. Following school Dick worked as a carpenter. In 1972 he started Polytank in Litchfield. Dick built Grove Creek Speedway in 1977, I-94 Speedway, Sauk Centre in 1991 and I-94 Speedway, Fergus Falls in 1993. Dick sponsored and helped many race teams, from go-karts to World of Outlaws. He started a local radio station, and also owned Fitness Systems and the Farmer’s Daughter. On November 3, 2001 he was united in marriage to Karla Kadelbach. He was a member of the Eagles in Litchfield and the Moose Lodge in Ortonville. Whether it was flying, racing, or snowmobiling; Dick loved speed. He enjoyed driving almost anything with an engine as long as it could go fast. He also enjoyed hunting, especially deer and ducks, and fishing. Dick will be remembered as a generous and loving person.
He is survived by his wife Karla Kadelbach of Litchfield; children Roch (and Diana) Johanneck of Litchfield, Sandy Johanneck of Litchfield, Daniel (and Pam) Johanneck of Litchfield, Pamela Johanneck of Litchfield, Rick (and Anna) Johanneck of Buffalo, 11 grandchildren: Chad (and Brenda) Johanneck, Roxanne McLain, Michael Thompson, Heather (and Pat) Sjoberg, Shannon (and Cory) Provencher, Dustin (and Cheryl) Johanneck, Mandy Mead, Darrick (and Dawn) Johanneck, Lesha Johanneck, Jessica (and Jacob) Schmidt, Jennifer (and Corey) Eystad; several great and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Rose Marie (and Bill) Reynolds of Westchester, Pennsylvania, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends that are like family, Chanda Lofquist and Tony Robertson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Bud, sister Theresa and daughter-in-law Debra Johanneck. Memorials to Ecumen Hospice or Parkinson's research are preferred in lieu of flowers.
