Raymond M. Wood, age 88, of Litchfield died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Emmanuel of Ecumen of Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Augustana Chapel in Litchfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley cemetery with military honors provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Raymond Morris Wood, the son of Clarence and Mabel (Clark) Wood, was born on March 8, 1924, in Eden Lake Township. He grew up and attended school in Manannah in a school house built by his family. He worked as a farm hand before he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Following his military service Ray returned to Meeker County where he worked in different industries from trucking for Anderson Chemical to being a crane operator. Ray was most widely known, however, for owning and operating Ray Wood Iron and Metal salvage yard on Lake Koronis. In the days before the internet, there was Ray Wood. If you needed a part for a fair price, he was the resource people looked to. Ray enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling all followed by a good game of cribbage. He also enjoyed trips to Texas. Ray and his wife Delores had one son, Owen. They both preceded him in death. He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Ray was an independent and private man not quick to express his feelings. However, Ray did truly appreciate the kindness and assistance shown to him by the staff and volunteers at Gloria Dei where he lived the last years of his life. Previous Events
