Phyllis Irene Koenig, the daughter of Arvilla and Jessie (Robbins) MaCoy was born on January 24, 1925 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She attended Mankato High School graduating in 1943 and Mankato State College graduating in 1947. She was united in marriage to Robert Wesley Koenig on December 4, 1948 in St. Peter, Minnesota. Together they made their home in Litchfield where she has lived until the present time. Phyllis taught school in Litchfield, MN for 53 years and was honored as Teacher of the Year. She was involved in BPW where she served as president and was named Woman of the Year. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout leader for 25 years, a G.A.R. Hall officer and active politically. She was a devoted volunteer with the Augustana Homes Auxiliary and Emmaus Gift Shop where she was treasurer and historian. Phyllis surrounded herself with activities through her work, church and community. She will be remembered as an outstanding volunteer, where she was active on many boards and committees. She loved doing things with and for kids and always took interest in her former students. She enjoyed going to the Guthrie Theater, listening to the MN Twins on WCCO, driving and biking around Lake Ripley and spending time with her family and friends. Phyllis is survived by her children; Robert W. (and Patricia) Koenig of Motley, MN, Lynn Bening of Hutchinson, MN, and James (and Melissa) Koenig of St. Michael, MN, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and daughter-in-law Patricia Koenig. She was preceded in death by her parents Arvilla and Jessie MaCoy, her husband Robert Koenig Sr., son Stephen Koenig, brothers; Arvilla MaCoy Jr. and Tim MaCoy and sister; Winnice Pepin.Previous Events
