Phyllis Jean Johnson

Phyllis J. Johnson, age 89, of Litchfield died on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Christian Muellerleile officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Arndahl Lutheran Cemetery. Phyllis Jean Johnson, the daughter of Albin and Pearl (Madson) Holmgren, was born December 12, 1924 in Danielson Township. Phyllis grew up in Meeker County and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1942. She continued her education at the Minneapolis School of Business. Phyllis worked at the National Tea Company. On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Marvin Johnson at the Arndahl Lutheran Church. Phyllis and Marvin lived by Cove Bay on Lake Mille Lacs until they moved to Meeker County in 1952. Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper and helped accountant Roy Anderson for twenty-five years in Litchfield. After her retirement, she volunteered at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield where she was an active member. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, putting together puzzles and macramé. She loved spending time with her family taking care of their needs. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the library at Zion Lutheran Church are preferred. She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Susan) Johnson of Plymouth, Brian (Nancy) Johnson of Champlin, Leslie (Becky) Johnson of Minneapolis, son-in-law Curt Nelson of Forest Lake; grandchildren Jennifer (Garrick) Graham, Angela Johnson, Matthew (Nicole) Johnson, Cory (Lindsey) Nelson, Jill (Myron) Engle, Melissa Johnson, Sonia (Will) Keillor, Stephanie Johnson, Ryan (Emily) Kjesbo-Johnson and great-grandchildren Alissa, Cole, Seth, Jackson, Owen, Michael, Amelia, Kevin, Zoey, Elena, Edith and Benjamin; brother, Donald Holmgren of Dassel, sister Arlene Williams of Litchfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Pearl (Madson) Holmgren, husband Marvin Johnson, daughter Sharon Nelson and brother Allan Holmgren.
