Philip R. Hartneck, age 92 of Annandale, MN, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on at 12:30 PM on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Philip Roland Hartneck, the son of Louis and Gertrude (Ganske) Hartneck, was born on June 5, 1922 in Watkins, MN. He grew up in Watkins and attended District 84 School. At the age of 19 he moved to Minneapolis before joining the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served as radioman on LST227 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, where he received six Battle Stars for his WWII Service. After the war, Philip was united in marriage to Myrtle Williams in Litchfield, MN. He was later united in marriage to Thelma Brown in Mesa AZ on June 4, 1993. Philip is a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale, and has been an eager and faithful participant in the Catholic Services at the VA hospital where he has resided for 10 months. Philip made his home in Golden Valley where he enjoyed much success as a business director at Twin City Monorail. After 28 years of service, he joined his adventurous children in Scottsdale, AZ where he built Hartneck Realty and Mortgage and Phil Hartneck Realty. In 2003, he returned to Minnesota. He was a member of the American Legion and Optimist Club. Phil's passion was his family. He enjoyed watching The Twins, fishing with his grandchildren, playing cards with siblings and friends, dancing with Sally, debating politics and world affairs, and parties, parties, parties with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Thelma ""Sally"" Hartneck of St. Cloud, daughter Coleen Sherman of Payson, AZ, grandchildren, Craig, Christopher and Cherden Hartneck and Tylor and Trevor Sherman, brother Larry (and Joan) Hartneck of Blaine and sister Gerry (and Wesley) of East Bethel, MN, great grandchildren, Coli, Josh, Camille, Sydney, Lakrisha, Jason, Brynna, Kristen, Dylan, Sadi, Sage, Cristian, Kelsy and Noah, and many nephews and nieces, all of whom he dearly loved as his own. He is also survived by his step grandchildren, Lucas (and Jamie) Brown and Cori (and Laren) Christensen step greatgrandchildren, Kaylee and Caitlyn. He is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Gertrude, his son Dennis, brothers Clifford, George, James, Lenard, Raymond, sisters Lorraine, Beatrice, Ordell (Nicky) and Lois and loving in-laws, nephews and nieces.
