Pauline J. Johnson

Pauline J. (Hegg) Johnson, age 103, of Litchfield died on October 22, 2010 at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN, with Father Joseph Steinbeisser officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Church of St. Philip with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Interment will be held at Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Pauline Josephine Johnson was born in Litchfield Township on February 28, 1907, to Alfred and Minne (Stenhoff) Hegg. At the age of 2 weeks, she moved with her parents to Union Grove Township in Meeker County where they farmed. She attended grade school at District 27 School and attended Litchfield High School for a short time. She worked for a time in the Manannah store and as a telephone operator in Minneapolis. On October 27, 1927, she married Mirrel Johnson at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Eden Valley. They lived in Minneapolis for one year, then began farming. They farmed in Union Grove and Mannanah townships until Mirrel passed away in 1968. They spent part of one year on the west coast. After Mirrel's death, Pauline moved to Litchfield where she worked in the kitchen at Meeker County Memorial Hospital. She spent much time making dresses for her granddaughters, knitting and crocheting. Pauline was very involved with the Senior Citizens group and was an avid card player until her eye sight failed her. Into her eighties, Pauline still enjoyed bowling and received a trophy for a 200 game. Pauline is survived by one son, Jim and wife Joan (McCandless) Johnson; granddaughters Mary and husband Dale Piepenburg, and Judy and husband Martin Meyering; grandson Mark and wife Delaine (Schultz) Johnson; and seven great grandchildren: Jared Piepenburg, Patrick, Krystyna and Kaitlyn Johnson; and Wendy, Timothy and Steffi Meyering. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Esther (Arbogast) Hegg, wife of Donald, along with many nephews and nieces. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Mirrel; parents, Alfred and Minne Hegg (Minne lived to be 102); brothers Donald Hegg, Lloyd and wife Zella (Phillips) Hegg; sisters, Mabel and husband Clarence Monson, Hazel and husband Al Thomson, and Mildred and husband Irvin Haagenson.
