Oliver 'Ollie' Harold Halvorson

Oliver ""Ollie"" Halvorson, age 84, of Litchfield died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Ness Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Oliver Harold Halvorson, the son of Ernest and Agnes (Calundan) Halvorson, was born on May 10, 1927, in Litchfield, MN. He was baptized at Ness Church and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Country School, Litchfield Grade School and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1946. He entered the Navy in 1944 during WWII and served aboard the ships USS LaVallette DD 448 and USS Accomac APB #49 in the South Pacific. He was discharged in July, 1946. He was united in marriage to Alta Darlene Williams on April 2, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN. He was employed at Culligan, Anderson Beverage Distributors and at First District, Litchfield, MN, for 32 years as a semi driver and lab tech, retiring in 1989. Ollie was a member of the VFW, Legion, Navy Club, WWII Last Mans Club, served as Honor Guard commander for over 25 years, OWLS and president of the Ness Church Cemetery board. He enjoyed fishing, golf and hunting moose, deer, ducks, pheasant and bear. He is survived by his wife Darlene Halvorson of Litchfield, son David (and Connie) Halvorson of Indianapolis, IN, granddaughter Jamie (and Adam) Waldron of Litchfield and 5 step grandchildren sister-in-law and brother-in-law Philip and Eileen Bergstrom of Paynesville, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale Halvorson, brother-in-law Al Williams, sister-in-law Pat Halvorson, father and mother-in-law Alvah and Anna Williams and niece Debbie Van Vickle.
