Nancy L. Thomton, of Litchfield, MN, passed away at the age of 74 on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at her home with her family by her side, after a short but valiant battle with cancer. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN with Pastor Jean Smith officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior the service at the church. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall. Private family interment will be at Lynd Cemetery, Lynd, MN. Arrangements by Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Litchfield, MN. Memorials are preferred. Nancy was born on February 5, 1937 in Marshall, MN to Wilbur and Nora Mae Larson (also known as Didge McAuliffe). A few years later they went to live in Alaska, where Wilbur helped build the ALCAN Highway. She was raised in Marshall, was a member of Job's Daughters, and graduated from Marshall High School in 1955. She graduated from nursing school at Northwestern Hospital through Macalester College in 1958 and worked as a Registered Nurse in the surgery department at (Abbott) Northwestern in Minneapolis for several years. In 1967, she moved to Litchfield with her husband Ronald Thomton, where she worked at as a nurse until she chose to raise their family full-time. She and Ron later divorced. Through the years she spent her time renovating rental properties, working on her beloved country home, gardening, and keeping up with her grandchildren's activities. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Nancy will be remembered for her love of her family, enjoyment of horses, sense of humor, strong work ethic and strength. She is survived by her daughters, Kelly (Jeff Barron) Thomton of Minneapolis and Kristi (Fred) Maahs of Grove City, and her grandchildren Ryan Christensen and Cole Maahs. She was preceded in death by her parents.
