Muriel Maxine Cole

Muriel M. Cole, age 90, of Litchfield died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Ecumen of Litchfield Emmanuel Home. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home with a parish prayer service beginning at 3:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt , MN in May 2015. Muriel Maxine Cole, the daughter of Thomas and Edith (Warden) Church, was born on June 16, 1924, in Cass Lake, Minnesota. She grew up in Cass Lake and received her education from Cass Lake High School. On December 15th 1946, she was united in marriage to Donald Walter Cole. They were married for 55 years before Donald's death in April 2001. She lived in Babbitt MN for 53 years before moving to Litchfield in 2003. She was an active member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt, including dedicating more than 25 years to teaching catechism. She was a founding member of the Babbitt Women's Birthday Club and the Babbitt Golf Course. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, games with the grandchildren, sewing and knitting. Muriel made many items for her family and also knit hundreds of teddy bears for donation to children in Africa. She was passionate about helping others and donated much time to the Babbitt Area Food Shelf. She was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, John (and Janis) Cole of Park Falls, WI, Thomas (and Holly) Cole of Litchfield, Colleen (and Lyle) Wick of Hugo, Candice (and Jeffrey) Woods of Litchfield, Calvin (and Sharon) Cole of Princeton and Patrick (and Louella) Cole of Brainerd; 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald; siblings, Gordon, Lyle, Blanche, Nolan and Harvey, and a grandson Zachery Allen Cole.
