Mildred E. Piepenburg, age 94, of Litchfield died on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Meeker Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Paul Lindhorst officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield, MN. Mildred Ella Piepenburg, the daughter of Albert and Freida (Koelke) Smith, was born on July 26, 1914 in Litchfield, Minnesota. She was baptized on August 23, 1914 and was confirmed August 18, 1929 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She grew up and received her education in Litchfield. Mildred graduated from Litchfield High School in 1932. She continued her education by attending Normal Training. Mildred taught Country School for a short time in the Cedar Mills area. She was united in marriage to Oliver Piepenburg on December 10, 1940. They farmed near Grove City for 4 1/2 years before moving to Greenleaf Township where they continued to engage in farming. In 1993, they moved to Litchfield. She was active with the County Extension Group, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and Vesper Guild. Mildred enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, painting, reading and traveling. She was known as "GG" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mildred is survived by her children, Sharon Piepenburg of Litchfield, MN, Pamela Piepenburg of Litchfield, MN, Curtis (and Mona) Piepenburg of Bayport, MN, grandchildren, Kimberley (and Tony) Hausladen and Jennifer (and Chad) Lottman, great grandchildren, Hunter, Paige, Logan and Nathaniel, brother, Lewis (and Florence) Smith of Litchfield, MN and sister, Helen Satterstrom of North Branch, MN, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded by her parents, her husband, brothers and sisters.
