Michael T. Finch, age 58, died peacefully at his home in Litchfield on Monday, December 28, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the Riverside Church in Hutchinson. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Saturday, January 2nd at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
He was born on April 8, 1957 to Donna and James Finch in Evergreen Park, IL. Attended school in Chicago until his family moved to Lavell Township in St. Louis County, Minn., in 1965. He attended schools in Toivola and Meadowlands, where he was a good student and decent athlete. He was fond of his teal Chevy Impala and kept it clean with great pride. He played the drums in his 4-H band along with older brother Jim, the best guitarist on stage. He was the first in his family to attend college, graduating in 1982 from North Central College in Minneapolis, Minn., with a degree in pastoral studies. While there, he met Pamela Migut, the love of his life. They married in 1980, and began their shared life of serving the Lord. He was appointed to pastor positions at numerous Assembly of God churches, where he admitted to honing his skill at lengthy sermons to captive audiences. Congregations and communities they touched included: Grandview, WI; Ishpeming and Marquette, MI; and Ortonville, Litchfield, Shakopee, and Hutchinson, MN. He realized his dream to begin planting a church in Belle Plaine, MN. A man of faith, Mike shaped spirituality of those around him by tireless Christian example, including his pastoral appointments, prayer groups and activities, and foster parenting. With a penchant for fun, Mike loved to spend time with family and friends, play guitar, dance with his wife, work with wood, garden and grow apple orchards, listen to the blues, read, prepare sermons, tease and laugh deeply, and pray. In addition to being a pastor, Mike was a carpenter and fixer of all things, and commanded many a school bus and transportation van that provided endless amusing stories for his telling. He could bake chocolate chip cookies without looking at the recipe. His legacy is his sons Matthew and Tim, of whom he was very proud. He loved them completely and was happiest spending time with them and their families. Mike is survived by loving wife and best friend Pam, sons Matthew (Eliza) and Timothy (Nicole Brewers), and grandson Thomas; mother Donna Finch; brother James (Bonnie); sister Cindy (Dan Williams); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Preceded by his grandparents, father James, brother Steve, and niece Heather. Previous Events
