Mervin Leroy Speckman DC, ""Doc"", age 95, of Litchfield, MN died on October 21, 2016 at his home in Litchfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. ""Doc"" Speckman, the son of William and Jennie (Rediehs) Speckman was born on December 24, 1920 in Hanover, North Dakota. He graduated from Welcome High School in 1939 and joined the National Guard in 1940. He entered the Army and also served in the Army Air Forces where he was honorably discharged in 1945. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Knafla in St. Cloud, MN on July 3, 1948. As a supervisor of many salesman for Wearever Cookware he moved around a lot, living in Alexandria, St. Cloud, Duluth, Tacoma, WA and Medicine Lake, MN. He continued his education attending Northwestern Chiropractic College in Mpls, graduating in 1962. He then worked as a chiropractor in St. Cloud, Holdrege, NE and finally, Litchfield, MN. He truly believed in the philosophy of chiropractic, often stating ""you need to treat the cause, not the symptom"". Doc was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a life member of the V.F.W. As an avid pilot and owner of many airplanes he served on the Litchfield Airport Commission for many decades. He enjoyed leaving the cold of Minnesota, traveling south to Florida for many winters. Doc never lost interest in learning new things; his interests were wide and varied. He was gregarious, flirtatious and always had a joke and a story to share. Doc is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Speckman of Litchfield, MN; children Jerry Speckman MD of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Wendy (Brian) Kamerud of Aberdeen, SD and Patty (Bob Aultman) Speckman of Bemidji, MN; four grandchildren, Cory, Brett, Joshua and Alex; one great grandchild; and a sister, Ruth Lund of Campbell, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Jennie; sister Eunice (Tudie) Ness and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Ecumen Home Care and Hospice in Litchfield, MN.Previous Events
