Maynard L. Johnson “Jigger”, age 73, of Grove City, MN, died on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City with Pastor Jean Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Immanual Lutheran Cemetery, Grove City, MN.
Maynard Louis Johnson, the son of Lawrence and Adeline (McCoy) Johnson, was born on September 29, 1935 in Union Grove Township, Meeker County, MN. He attended high school in Grove City, graduating in 1953. He was united in marriage to Arlyss Gratz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Atwater on September 1, 1956. Maynard farmed for many years and drove truck for Johnson Brothers Construction, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Teamster Union for over 20 years. Maynard enjoyed fishing, playing cards and fixing tractors. He also enjoyed reading old western novels, listening to country music and having coffee and visiting with his friends.
Maynard is survived by his children Randy (and Yvonne) Johnson of Grove City, MN, Pam (and Gene) Mix of Roseville, MN, Cindy (and Dan) Dilley of Eagan, MN and Scott (and Ann) Johnson of Backus, MN; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and former wife Arlyss of Grove City, MN. He is also survived by his brother Milton (and Sharron) Johnson of Brooten, MN; and sister Audrey (and John) Noyed of Cokato, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Adeline; and brother Merlin “Stub” Johnson.
