Maxine M. Witthus, age 88, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Litchfield. Burial will be at a later date in Lake Ripley Cemetery.
Maxine Mae Witthus was born on September 13, 1929 the daughter of Max and Mabel (Hanson) Krueger. She grew up in rural Corvuso and Cedar Mills area and received her education at St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1947. Maxine was united in marriage to Hillard Witthus on September 9, 1948 in Cedar Mills. They farmed in Danielson Township and Harvey Township prior to moving to Litchfield in 1977. She worked at Christine’s, sold Avon and was a dental assistant. Most of all, she was most proud of her time spent as a homemaker, wife, mom and grandma. She loved to study the Bible and was honored to share what she learned with others. She loved to travel, bake, sew, crochet, and garden. She was a fabulous seamstress and loved spending time outdoors.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Witthus of Litchfield and Barbara (Bob) Anderson of Litchfield; daughter-in-law, Jean Witthus of Litchfield; grandchildren, Stacey (Edward) Freeman, Heidi (Warren) Zook, and Buck (Katie) Erickson; great grandchildren, Tyler (Amanda) Beckstrand, Madison Beckstrand, Carter Beckstrand, Kennedy Beckstrand, Taylor Zook, Michael Zook, Maxwell Zook, Samuel Zook, Frankie Zook, Isabelle Erickson, Teddy Erickson; great-great grandchildren Alayna Beckstrand and Raena Beckstrand.
She is also survived by her sister Ruth Aul of Biscay. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hillard, brothers Merlin Krueger and Rueben “Tub” Krueger.
