Mavis Loyda

Mavis A. Loyda, age 91, of Litchfield died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 11:30 AM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN with Pastor Bridget Haefner officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Mavis Anna Loyda, the daughter of Adolf and Anna (Divida) Elofson, was born on July 29, 1918 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She spent her early childhood in Sioux Falls until living in the Lutheran Children's Home Orphanage in Red Wing, Minnesota from age 9 until age 14. She graduated from High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Herbert Weiss in Florida on January 14, 1945. They made their home in Florida. Herbert died in 1964 and on June 27, 1974 she married Rudy Loyda. After Rudy died in 1977, Mavis moved up to Minnesota to live next door to her daughter Joan and her family. Mavis volunteered at Senior Dining and at the Natural Food Co-op. She attended St. Matthews United Church of Christ. She enjoyed flowers, playing cards, helping others, family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Joan (and Gary) Horwath of Litchfield, Jerry (and Lana) Weiss of Ocean Springs, MS and Joel Weiss of Lutz, FL, 6 grandchildren; Jonathan (and Melinda) Horwath, Joleen (and Brad) Baysinger, Jesse Horwath, Tricia (and Steve) Loving, Jason Weiss, and Jena (and David) Sapia, 6 great grandchildren; Jacob Horwath, Julie Horwath, Katrina Baysinger, Joey Loving, Trevor Loving, and Jeremy Weiss. She is also survived by a sister Elsie Peiper of Clearwater, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Herbert and Rudy, brothers; Elroy Elofson, Arnold Elofson, and a sister Vivian.
