Marytemple Behrens

Marytemple Behrens, age 93, of Litchfield, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield, MN. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastors Peter Holm and Mark Preus officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Marytemple was born on December 25, 1921, the daughter of Richard and Ida (Riem) Kunard, in Pond Creek, Oklahoma. Born prematurely, she was baptized the next day. In the late 20's her family moved to Fairmont, MN. She grew up in Fairmont and graduated from the Fairmont High School in 1939. After school she worked as a book keeper for her father at his tire shop. She was united in marriage to Eldred Walter Behrens on March 16, 1946, in Fraser Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Martin County, MN until 1956, Eden Valley MN until 1964, Rosendale, MN until 2004 and then made their residence in Litchfield, MN. She also candled eggs at the Rosendale General Store. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary for the past 67 years. Marytemple was an organist for the churches they attended and she also enjoyed playing the piano. She and Eldred wintered in Arizona for 26 years. Marytemple is survived by her children; Douglas (and Kathryn) Behrens of Champlin, MN, Stuart (and Sharon) Behrens of Litchfield, MN, Carol (and Richard) Streufert of Glencoe, MN, and William Behrens (and Jayne Piepenburg) of Litchfield, MN 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; son-in-law Brian (Jennifer) Cordes of Litchfield, MN; sister, Millicent (and Roger) Hanson of Winnebago, and brother Marlin (and Marlene) Kunard.
