Mary Margaret Whitcomb

Mary M. Whitcomb, age 80, of Litchfield passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home near Litchfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Our Lady of Manannah Catholic Church in Manannah. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 7th at the church with a parish prayer service at 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services on Friday. Interment will be in the Bird Island Community Cemetery at a later date. Mary Margaret Whitcomb, the daughter of Laurence and Ursula (Coughlin) Delvaux, was born on March 18, 1936 in Beadle County, SD. She grew up in Cavour, SD and received her education there graduating from the Catholic High School. After high school she moved to San Antonio, TX and worked as a nurse's aide. She met her future husband while he was stationed there in the military. On March 2, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Dale William Whitcomb in Cavour, SD. They made their home in Huron, SD for a couple of years before moving to a farm southwest of Atwater. In 1968, they moved to the farm south of Grove City. In August of 2015 Mary moved in with her son Gerald west of Litchfield. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Manannah Catholic Church. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, flower gardening and watching birds. Mary loved her family dearly and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was some of her most cherished time. She is survived by her children, Dennis Whitcomb of Litchfield, Scott (Donna) Whitcomb of Grove City, Kelly (Mary) Whitcomb of Atwater, Margaret (Craig) Flemming of Bird Island, Stephanie (Dale) Pautzke of Grove City, Jimmy (Melissa) Whitcomb of Atwater and Gerald (Cynthia) Whitcomb of Litchfield; grandchildren, Jeremy Whitcomb, Josh (Ellen) Whitcomb, Nathan (Veronica) Whitcomb, Brandon Whitcomb (and Kari Wrobel), Lacy Whitcomb, Kasey Whitcomb, Kelsey (Dustin) Meyers, Alisha Flemming, Carla Flemming, Christine Flemming, Logan Pautzke, Jessica Pautzke, Alex Whitcomb, Merisa Whitcomb, Tyler Whitcomb, and Madison Whitcomb; great grandchildren, Owen Whitcomb, Brock Whitcomb, Ava Whitcomb, Leah Whitcomb, Levi Nelson, Rylie Nelson, Blake Hoecke, Jayden Hoecke, Jase Hoecke, William Whitcomb, Dixie Meyer, and Payden Hopp. She is also survived by her brothers James (Arlie) Delvaux of Sioux Falls SD, Larry (Connie) Delvaux of Yankton SD, John (Rosemarie) Delvaux of Woonsocket SD, and Frank (Joyce) Delvaux of Brookings SD; sister Virginia (Gary) Lobash of Coon Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, brothers Bill and Paul Delvaux, sister JoAnn Peterson and daughter-in-law Linda Whitcomb.
