Mary L. Maher, age 88, of Litchfield, MN died on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Crow River Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Crow River Lutheran Church. Interment will be held in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery in Belgrade. Mary Linner Maher, the daughter of Emil and Martha (Linner) Anderson was born in Litchfield, MN on December 25, 1927. She enjoyed growing up in Litchfield, where her parents were the owners of Anderson Hardware. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1946 and continued her education at the University of Minnesota. Mary was united in marriage to John J. Maher on February 12, 1955 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN. Mary was a member of the Crow River Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA. Mary was a Den Leader in Cub Scouts and helped bring the first Girl Scout Troop to Belgrade, she also volunteered at the food shelf. Mary loved to entertain and would set a lovely table. She enjoyed baking and had a hard time keeping baked goods in the freezer with her three sons raiding it. She also enjoyed antiquing, scrapbooking and sewing. Mary enjoyed serving special holiday meals, and her holiday treats such as lefsa for Christmas and calla lilies for Easter were very much anticipated. Mary was a fun grandmother and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always up for an adventure with them, whether it was fishing at County Park Nine or putting a penny on the railroad track to see what would happen when the train ran over it. Mary is survived by her children James Louis (Janice) Maher of Darwin, MN, Luke Edward (Kay) Maher of Sauk Centre, MN and David William Maher of Belgrade, MN; 7 grandchildren Ian Maher, Gretchen (Eric) Sietsema, Dustin Morehouse, Heather (Travis) Daly, Christopher (Nyona) Morehouse, Amelia Maher and Chris Maher; and 7 great grandchildren Elizabeth, Annika, Bridgette, Madison, Aubree, Hunter and Jeffery. She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Martha Anderson; sister Ruth Bordin; and brother John Anderson.Previous Events
