Mary Colleen Hemstreet

Mary Colleen (McQuirk) Hemstreet, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 28, 2023. She was born on February 6, 1941, in Manchester, SD to Ralph "Cy" and Martha McQuirk. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Huron, SD on September 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM with a visitation one hour prior and a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Iroquois, SD.

Mary's career as a bookkeeper for a newspaper brought her joy and fulfillment. It was during her time at the newspaper that she met her husband, Wayne Hemstreet. Outside of work, Mary found joy in various hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, and cooking. She also had a passion for searching through garage sales, finding unique treasures that brought joy into her home. Music held a special place in Mary's heart; she loved to sing and play the piano. Above all, she loved her family. Mary was also a devout Catholic. She lived her life guided by the values instilled in her by the church. Her unwavering faith provided strength and comfort throughout the years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Hemstreet of Litchfield, MN; her children Susan (Rick) Pautzke of Barnesville, MN; Teresa (Ralph) Drange of Grove City, MN; Steven (Christine) Delvaux of Charlotte, NC; and Stacy (Wesley) Fish of Morris, OK; her six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her siblings Eva Schlenker, Ruth (Gayle) Hauser, and Edward (Jaynie) McQuirk.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Martha (McTighe) McQuirk; her siblings Gerald, Ralph (Sybil), Julie (Larry) DeJean, Virginia Gilbert; and her brother-in-law Frank Schlenker.
