Mary S Carr

Mary S. (Luscombe) Carr, age 98, formerly of Grove City died on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Dassel Lakeside Care Center. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, January 19, 2015, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at 1:00 PM at the Henry Olson Funeral Home in Armstrong, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 20th at the Armstrong Cemetery. Mary Sabina Carr, the daughter of James and Katherine (Ernst) Luscombe, was born on June 2, 1916, near Dolliver, Iowa. She grew up near Dolliver and received her education from country school and at the Dolliver Public High School. Following high school, Mary worked on the family farm. On December 1, 1937, she was Married to Leon Carr. A few years later she moved to Ceylon, MN. Mary raised chinchillas for their fur and was a home maker. She moved to Grove City in 1959. She was a chicken farmer, raising thousands of chickens and selling their eggs. She was a member of Home Extension. She enjoyed oil painting, sewing and gardening. She is survived by her children, Mildred (Carr) Holland of Rushmore, MN, Larry (and Lorraine) Carr of Grove City; grandchildren, Scott (and Linda) Holland, Todd Holland, Hope (Holland) Hancock, Kay (Holland) (and Steve) Rick, Candace Carr, Robin Carr; great grandchildren, Cory (and Tina) Carr, Heather Erickson, Krystal Holland, Kathy (and Josh) Holland, Brittney Erdman, Taylor Erdman, Jordan Carr, Aaron Miller, Ciara Bents, Santanna Bents, Kaleb Bents, Colton Bents; great great grandchildren, Hailey Carr, Jayden Carr, Abbigale Thomas, Connor Bird and Serenity Bents. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jay Carr; grandchildren Lori Carr, James Carr and David Carr and brothers, Randal (and Bernice) Luscombe and Arthur (and Alvina) Luscombe.
