Marvin L. Oakes

Marvin L. Oakes, age 75, of Willmar, MN died on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar, MN. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Church of God in Litchfield, MN. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Interment will be held at the Union Cemetery in Atwater, MN. Marvin Leroy Oakes, the son of Leroy and Ellen (Johnson) Oakes was born on September 24, 1938 in Canby, MN. He was confirmed September 28, 1952 and was united in marriage to Deloris Marie Christianson on June 28, 1957 in Montevideo, MN. He lived in various places throughout his life, moving from Montevideo to Willmar, Paynesville, Clarkfield, Atwater, and was currently in Willmar. He work many years at Jennie-O in Willmar and retired from Leaders Manufacturing. He enjoyed coon hunting, bird watching, and fishing with his grandchildren, but from a young age his passion was dirt track stock car racing, and he followed and watched his grandson race #79M. Marvin is survived by his children Scott Oakes of Duluth, MN and Wanda (and Raymond) Shoutz of Atwater, MN; grandchildren Heather (and Josh) Roggatz of Montevideo, MN, Katie Shoutz of St. Cloud, MN and Justin (and Brittany) Oakes of Big Lake, MN; great grandchildren Haylee Oakes, Hannah Oakes, Carl Oakes and Bentley Roggatz; brothers, Laverne (and Karen) Oakes of Wichita, KS, Dwayne (and Jeannie) Oakes of Tucson, AZ and Steven (and Marsha) Oakes of Burns, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.
