Martin Junior Wieker

Martin J. Wieker, age 82, of Litchfield died peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Westwood Health Care Center in St. Louis Park. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Augustana Chapel in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Arndahl Lutheran Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Martin Junior Wieker, the son of Martin and Alta (Johnson) Wieker, was born on September 9, 1929 in Cedar Mills He grew up in the Cosmos and Rosendale area. He attended District 39 country school and graduated from Grove City High School in 1947. Martin entered the U.S. Navy in November of 1948 and served until September of 1952. After his military service he returned to help his father with the family farm. On November 8, 1952 he was married to Lorraine Bomstad. In 1954 he started working for Kinney Shoes and eventually Foot Locker. He opened and managed the first Foot Locker store in Minnesota in 1975. Martin trained many new managers and was awarded ""Manager of the Year"" in 1976 which earned him a trip to Switzerland. In 1979, he moved to Florida to help establish Foot Locker stores in Winter Park and Fort Lauderdale. He lived in Florida for 5 years and while he was there he enjoyed deep sea fishing. He moved back to Minnesota in 1985 and lived with his daughter Mardi and her family in Isanti. He was a member of the American Legion Post 622. Martin moved to Gloria Dei in Litchfield 26 years later to be near his brothers and sisters. In his short year and half there he made many friends. In his early years Martin was very athletic and he continued his love of sports watching his children's and grandchildren's events. Martin enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards, especially cribbage. He is survived by his children Mardi (and Dan) Hansen of Isanti, Scott (and Susan) Wieker of New Hope, Lane (and Sharon) Wieker of Hudson, Tammy (and Tony) Dooher of New Hope, 12 grandchildren: Sara (and Jason) Campbell, Danny Hansen (and Kayla Honstrom), Jenna Hansen, Katie (and Jeremy) Hughes, Chris Wieker, Carson Wieker, Luke Wieker, Ben Wieker, Anna Wieker, Andrew Dooher, Nicole Dooher and Zachary Dooher, 3 great grandchildren: Clara Hughes, Kaden Honstrom and Wyatt Campbell. He is also survived by his brothers Elmer Wieker of Litchfield, Donald Wieker of Litchfield, Edward (and Faye) Wieker of Arkansas, Gary Wieker of Minneapolis and sisters, Lucille Nelson and Dorothy Hetsch both of Litchfield, many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clarence, Marvin, Virgil, Kenneth, Gene and sister Noreen.
