Martha H. North

Martha H. North, age 98, of Litchfield died on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Martha Helen North, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Huhnholz) Meinhold, was born on May 30, 1915, in Forman, ND. She grew up near Forman and attended country school. On November 26, 1936, she was united in marriage to Donald L. North in Forman. They moved to Vernon Center, MN and began farming. In 1947, they moved north of Grove City where they farmed together until Donald died in 1971. Martha moved to Litchfield and worked as a cook at the Bethany nursing home. She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and was involved in LWML, the sewing group, and the choir. She enjoyed her gardening, the Minnesota Twins and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Darlene Holmberg of Eden Valley, Dwayne (and Brigid) North of Burnsville, Donna (and Jim) Caron of Grove City; son-in-law, Dean F. Johnson of Litchfield, 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald North, daughter, Vera Johnson, son-in-law, Wesley Holmberg, 3 sisters and one brother.
