Marlyn Lowell Anderson

Marlyn Lowell Anderson 84 of Litchfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10 at the St. Cloud Hospital with his family surrounding him. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Ostmark Lutheran Church in rural Watkins. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, September 22nd at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Military honors will be provided by the Kingston American Legion Post #483. He was born on March 26, 1933 in Kingston Township to Carl and Gladyce (Bergstrom) Anderson. He attended elementary school in Kingston and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1951. In November of 1955, Marlyn was called to the U.S. Navy and served for two years stationed in Brunswick, Maine and on the Island of Malta. On June 6, 1959, Marlyn was united in marriage to Sandra Mae Nelson at Ostmark Lutheran Church. Two children, Laurie and Layne, were born to this union. Marlyn lived his life by the 4 F’s: Faith, Family, Friends, and Farming. He and Sandra farmed in Forest City and Kingston Townships until 2004 when they moved into Litchfield. He was active on church and school boards. Also, he was a member at the Kingston Legion and an active member of the Kingston Lions. Farming was his life. He was so proud to be handing down his farming operation to his son and grandson. Visiting with his friends and talking farming was a great pleasure for him. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were a source of pride. Also, many benefitted from his wood working skills—tables, wooden crosses, and picture frames. Marlyn is survived by his wife Sandra; daughter, Laurie (Jon) Gelschus; son, Layne (Kristy) Anderson. Grandchildren, Amy (Mike) DuFrene, Bradley Gelschus (fiancé Jane), Tami Merkins (fiancé Nathan), Shelby (Zach) Hedtke, and Ryan Anderson. Great grandchildren, Avery and Brooklynn Gelschus, Malachi and Nathaniel DuFrene, and William and Elouise Merkins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gladyce, his father and mother-in-law Birger and Maybelle Nelson, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Pall Bearers will be “boys that worked with us on the farm”.
