Marilyn D. Olson, age 86, of Litchfield died on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Dassel Lakeside Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at a later date in the Ripley Cemetery.
Marilyn Dorothy Olson, the daughter of Louis and Clara (Ditlevson) Larson, was born on March 9, 1926, in Litchfield. She grew up and attended school in Grove City; graduating from Grove City High School in 1944. After school she moved to the Twin Cities with her twin sister, Marjorie, and worked for a short time before returning to the Litchfield area. She worked at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital and Penny's in Litchfield. On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Arthur Olson at Arndahl Lutheran Church. Marilyn worked at Bethany as a cook for many years after she was married. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with her family....no matter if it was a call or a visit, her face always brightened! She was an amazing cook and baker and could always be found near the kitchen. Her most notable recipes included chocolate chip cookies, apple crisp and porcupine meatballs. Sunday meals were special times. Marilyn also was a ""choco-holic."" She loved Hershey Bars and Russel Stover Pecan Clusters. Marilyn also enjoyed painting. She took multiple classes and her work hangs on many family walls. She also loved dolls and had a collection. Marilyn enjoyed nature; watching and feeding birds and gardening. She always had two gardens; one for vegetables and one with flowers. Roses were her specialty and she enjoyed showing them in the county fair. She also enjoyed her neighborhood ladies' coffee group. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Olson of Litchfield, daughter, Sharon (and Bruce) Dicke of Litchfield, son, Gary (and Jane) Olson of Litchfield, grandchildren, Alisa (and Eric) Johnson, Sara Olson, Rebecca Olson-Ball (and Kyle Ball), Michael Olson and Tamara (and Dan) Minton, great grandchildren, Matthew, Alayna and Ella Johnson, Sophie and Addison Minton. She is also survived by brother Lemoine (and Peggy) of Litchfield and sister, Marlene (and Gaylord) of Moorhead, MN. Sister-in-law Nona Nelson, nieces and nephews, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister Marjorie Larson. Memorial to Zion Lutheran Church and Dassel Lakeside Health Care Center are preferred. Previous Events
