Marie C. Hulterstrum, age 93, of Litchfield died on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the church and will continue one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Marie Clarissa (Christofferson) Hulterstrum, the daughter of Carl and Gusta (Winge) Christofferson, was born October 29, 1921, in Madison, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church in rural Louisburg. She attended rural school District 45 for eight years and graduated from Madison High School in 1939. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Home Economics. Marie taught Junior and Senior High Home Economics at Walnut Grove, Hutchinson, and Madison schools. She directed class plays and was very involved in school activities which she enjoyed very much. Marie remained a teacher all her life, sharing her talents with many. Following her teaching career, Marie became the Meeker County Extension Agent in Litchfield. It was there she met her loving husband, Wayne Hulterstrum. They were married August 10, 1957 at Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church and shared 44 years together. Family, friends, community and church were special to Marie. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and serving as Superintendent for many years. She enjoyed her involvement with her church circle, the quilting group, and WELCA. Marie volunteered in the community as a 4-H leader, was a long time member of a Home Extension Club, and enjoyed working at the Emmaus Gift Shop. Marie was first and foremost a homemaker. She took great pride in providing a warm, comfortable and welcoming home for her family as well as guests. Entertaining was her strength and passion. She strongly valued her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed sharing it through cooking, baking, handiwork, music, and holiday traditions. Grandchildren brought her great joy as she attended their concerts, recitals, sporting events, plays, 4-H activities, and award programs. She took a genuine interest in their lives. Her great grandchildren provided her many smiles and laughter.
She is survived by her children, Ann (Bruce) Tiffany of Redwood Falls, Mark (Judy) Hulterstrum, of Litchfield, John (Katie) Hulterstrum of Litchfield; grandchildren, Matthew (Kimary) Tiffany, Austin (Maryellen) Tiffany, Alex Tiffany, Laura and Eric Hulterstrum, Ellen, Jane and Greta Hulterstrum ; great grandchildren, Willa, Cora and Nolan Tiffany. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Luettinger of Lake City; nieces, Cheryl Luettinger and Wanda (Brad) Pederson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne and a brother in infancy. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Previous Events
