Margaret H. McCarney

Margaret Helen McCarney, age 94, of Litchfield, MN, died at the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins on Sunday, May 18, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Church of Our Lady in Manannah. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 22 at the Church of Our Lady in Manannah. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Church of Our Lady Catholic Cemetery in Manannah. Margaret Helen McCarney, the daughter of Frank and Wilhelmina (Zehringer) Jost, was born in Ortonville, MN on July 31, 1919. In fourth grade her family moved to a farm by Morris, Minnesota. She attended District 60 Country School. She graduated Valedictorian from St. Mary's High School in Morris, MN and continued her education at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. Margaret was united in marriage to Jerome McCarney in Morris, MN on July 8, 1943 and together they settled on the family farm in Harvey Township. Margaret was a bright and loving woman. She was a devote Catholic with family always being the most important aspect of her life. She loved holding the 43 babies that entered her life during her 94 years. Her community and church activities included 4-H Leadership and she worked hard at the District 90 Country School Mothers Club. She was a lifetime member of Christian Mothers, a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella, and was an active circle member in the Church of Our Lady. Margaret participated in activities of the County Extension Agency for most of her adult years, and was an active circle member in the Church of Our Lady. She loved traveling with Jerome to Ireland, Alaska, and multiple domestic trips. She visited Europe with her sister, and enjoyed visiting with family, playing cards, gardening, and church activities. Margaret was a stay at home mother until the babies were older when she started her 20 year career in Social Services of Meeker County. Her prior work experience included 3 years at Lambert Lumber in St Paul before her marriage. She is survived by her husband Jerome of rural Litchfield; and five children, Mary Jo (Peter) Conzemius of Minnetonka, MN, Jeanne Rooney-Graves (Bruce Graves) of West Des Moines, IA, Catherine ""Carney"" Derksen (Timothy-deceased) of West Des Moines, IA, Michael (Diana) McCarney of rural Litchfield; Kevan (deceased 1999) daughter-in-law Marcia McCarney of Paynesville; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brothers Paul Jost and Arthur Jost; and sisters Katherine Claussen and Agnes Stensby. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Don, Ray, Lawrence and Louis.
